The United States Golf Association (USGA) on the 18th, May announced to cancel organizing elimination round for choosing slots for the major events in which they are the host due to the outbreak of the pandemic.

This decision is also applied to other tournaments of USGA during 2020. Moreover, they also crossed out 4 events for the middle-aged and elderly amateur golfers, both male and female.

”This is a really tough decision because the elimination round is the key factor for other events of USGA. We feel a great sense of pride while thousands of people have always been in the will of chasing the golfing dream with professional tournament and it is such a shame that we have to miss this year’s tournament. However, we believe that this is totally reasonable and suitable for the rest of the 2020 plan and further years’ plans.” the Chief Executive of USGA John Bodenhamer said in the first announcement made at the beginning of this week.

Previously, USGA had announced to cancel 6 official tournaments due to Covid-19.

In the USGA tournament this year, therefore, there will only be 4 events with the highlighted one is U.S Women’s Open with the other 2 open female and male tournaments. By canceling the official elimination round, this tournament will only welcome holders being specially offered wild cards.

The organizing schedule for the female US Open tournament has been adjusted to last from the 17th to 20th, September instead of June as traditionally. The dual events for female and male amateur tournaments will take place at the half beginning of August. With other candidates being offered wide cards, the organizing department will make an announcement detailed in a few incoming weeks. They have yet made up their mind about whether there will be spectators for the competitions or not.

Greenbrier will not be on the list of PGA Tour players since the 2021 tournament. Instead of that, the tournament will be kicked off with the Safeway Open event taking place during the period from the 7th to 13th, December.

The manager of GreenBrier – Jill Justice let others know: “ We, along with the PGA Tour, has come up with the final solution to help both of the organizations overcome many difficulties being caused by Covid-19.”

According to the statement of GreenBrier given to the journalism,  the actual reason standing behind this decision of no longer taking part in PGA Tour in the next years is that A Military Tribute at the GreenBrier has been replaced from July to September. At that period, students has come back to schooling, therefore, the tournament’s attraction to sponsors and golf fans will decline dramatically. Before that, the PGA Tour has been decided to not take place in 2019, instead, return as the first event of 2020 tournament.

Justice’s family bought the GreenBrier entertainment complex in 2009, and the one who took all responsibility of this large possession is Mr. Jim Justice, the West Virginia’s governor. Greenbrier has been in the PGA Tour schedule since 2010, replacing for Buick Open in Grand Blanc, Michigan and this contract will last until 2026. Throughout the previous years, GreenBrier has organized many big events which attracted many spectators and golfers such as: Ryder Cup 1979, Solheim Cup 1994 and this is also the event which witnessed the first victory of Xander Schauffele and Joaquin Niemann.

Thanks to the governor Jim Justice and GreenBrier Resort has collapsed with PGA Tour during 10 years, Andy Pazder – the head manager of the PGA Tour confirmed: “GreenBrier Resort will be a fantastic place for golfers and golf tournaments which we will never forget.”

The Premier Golf League approaches Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods listened to the Premier Golf League (PGL) talk about a project to set up a professional golf tournament system that competes with the PGA Tour.

According to the earliest launch plan in 2022, PGL is a worldwide tournament system, with 48 star golfers divided into 12 teams, competing against each other through 54 holes each. The total initial prize fund of the system is 240 million USD, with a schedule of 18 stages, including 10 stages in the US. This is a product of World Golf Group based in the United Kingdom developed by the unit under Team Golf Concept.

The goal of PGL is to create more events to bring together the best brothers. In the old days, big names gathered only five times a year at four major and The Players Championship. We wanted more opportunities. Then, the WGC tournaments were born, helping the big names meet more at the peak events. So the arena is the evolution of nature. Whether or not it will come sooner or later.

PGL is considered a potential competitor of PGA Tour. But to do that, the new project needs to convince contemporary big stars, with the top priority being the owners of 15 major, to join.

The birth of PGL was revealed when the Farmers Insurance Open took place from 23-26 / 1. Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson expressed openness to new ideas, but declined to comment because not enough information. At the end of January, the five-time grand champion of Saudi International, was spotted with the top team of Team Golf Concept in Pro-Am. Later, Mickelson said it was a day filled with interesting information.

Meanwhile, the PGA Tour showed a fierce attitude towards the idea of organizing PGL. Special envoy Jay Monahan sent a memorandum to the golfers, reiterated the terms of the binding, and warned not to “catch two-handed fish”. Monahan confirmed PGL is financially supported from Saudi Arabia for the purpose of competing and creating a direct conflict with the PGA Tour. Special envoy Keith Pelley of the European Tour made a similar move to his counterpart at the PGA Tour.
