Greenbrier will not be on the list of PGA Tour players since the 2021 tournament. Instead of that, the tournament will be kicked off with the Safeway Open event taking place during the period from the 7th to 13th, December.
The manager of GreenBrier – Jill Justice let others know: “ We, along with the PGA Tour, has come up with the final solution to help both of the organizations overcome many difficulties being caused by Covid-19.”
According to the statement of GreenBrier given to the journalism, the actual reason standing behind this decision of no longer taking part in PGA Tour in the next years is that A Military Tribute at the GreenBrier has been replaced from July to September. At that period, students has come back to schooling, therefore, the tournament’s attraction to sponsors and golf fans will decline dramatically. Before that, the PGA Tour has been decided to not take place in 2019, instead, return as the first event of 2020 tournament.
Justice’s family bought the GreenBrier entertainment complex in 2009, and the one who took all responsibility of this large possession is Mr. Jim Justice, the West Virginia’s governor. Greenbrier has been in the PGA Tour schedule since 2010, replacing for Buick Open in Grand Blanc, Michigan and this contract will last until 2026. Throughout the previous years, GreenBrier has organized many big events which attracted many spectators and golfers such as: Ryder Cup 1979, Solheim Cup 1994 and this is also the event which witnessed the first victory of Xander Schauffele and Joaquin Niemann.
Thanks to the governor Jim Justice and GreenBrier Resort has collapsed with PGA Tour during 10 years, Andy Pazder – the head manager of the PGA Tour confirmed: “GreenBrier Resort will be a fantastic place for golfers and golf tournaments which we will never forget.”
