PGA Tour brought CJ Cup 2020 back to the US

As Covid-19 is getting complicated, the venue in Korea will be transferred to Las Vegas.
Initially, the CJ Cup was scheduled to take place on Jeju Island from October 15 to October 18 for the 2020-2021 season. But the current pandemic situation forces the PGA Tour to adjust its schedule.
Moreover, given the current travel restrictions including 14-day quarantine for visitors who come from the US, the organization of the event in Korea will not be as effective as expected by the PGA Tour.
“Despite the fact that we are looking forward to traveling and exploring in Korea, the current situation is not favorable for us to implement the plan. However, it also brings new opportunities to promote the event to the American audience as well as the world “, Ty Votaw – the vice president who is in charge of international markets of the PGA Tour explained in the announcement on 24/8.
A new remarkable point of CJ Cup 2020 is the Shadow Creek Stadium, Las Vegas, which is still available from the 15th to the 18th of September. This location and new schedule would help golfers to reduce the pressure to travel to different situations, as the PGA Tour also went to Las Vegas the previous week to attend the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at the TPC Summerlin Stadium.
This year’s list of CJ Cup matches is still selective, which includes 78 golfers, eight of them selected by sponsors, five spots designated by the KPGA Tour in Korea – the country’s number one firm in the Asian Tour, and other 3 top worldwide players. The tournament will not eliminate 36 holes as usual.
CJ Cup has been held at The Club at Nine Bridges, Jeju since 2017. Justin Thomas was crowned in the first period as the current champion. Last year, he finished at -20, receiving $ 1,755 million in a bonus fund of $ 9.75 million. Brooks Koepka won the 2018 season.
