Thanks to an impressive breakthrough in the second round, “American captain” Patrick Reed has a great opportunity to write history in the DP World Tour Championship as well as the European Tour.
After opening day accumulating only 2 strokes, Reed delivered an impressive performance by former Masters champion with a 64-stroke round (-8).
Starting from hole 1, golfer nicknamed “Caption America” collected to 6 birdies in the first nine lines and raised this number to 9 with birdie round closing hole. The only bogey error in Reed’s scoreboard came from the situation at hole 12 par 4, the Earth Course of Jumeirah Golf Estates. At -9, Reed went upstream to 8 steps to monopolize the first place, taking 2 strokes against Matthew Fitzpatrick. If he keeps his momentum going, Reed will enter European Tour history as the first American golfer to win Race to Dubai (formerly Order of Merits), a ranking with the main season end event being the DP World Tour Championship.
“Whenever you have a round of -8 strokes, you will be delighted. I feel like I got off to a better start today and my putter is doing well, ”said Reed.
However, Reed will have to put in a lot of effort from the top position to more than six strokes with 12 other players, including Tommy Fleetwood, Danny Willett, Martin Kaymer, Tyrrell Hatton, Viktor Hovland and Lee Westwood.
