4 things to know about The Match: Champions for Change

During the week of the PGA Tour emptying schedule, golf fans still witnessed an exciting tournament, The Match third period.
The Match: Champions for Change kicked off on Black Friday (November 27, 2020) at Stone Canyon Stadium in Oro Valley, Arizona. In addition to Tiger Woods’ absence, the event had many other changes, but the value of the entertainment and philanthropy remained the same.

New faces
In the first period of 2018 and in May this year, The Match always had Super Tiger and Phil Mickelson. However, in the third period, the tournament had only one professional player, Mickelson. In it, Lefty will pair with the NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley compared to Peyton Manning and another veteran character of the American professional basketball village Stephen Curry. At the Medalist Stadium a few months ago, Manning showed off his remarkable skill and with Woods won.
Beneficiary unit
Like The Match 2, the third version is also aimed at meaningful humanities. This time, the mobilized funding will go to traditional black colleges and universities (HBCU).
Before The Match 3, Mickelson announced a $ 500,000 grant to Jackson State University, a HBCU university in the state of Mississippi.
New format
Whereas in previous editions it was a fourball and foursomes format, this time the four star quartets will be playing the modified alternate shot mode, which is almost identical to foursomes. Each team member will take turns to hit their own tee shot and select the better positioned ball to complete the hole.
Charles tee
Charles Barkley, a golfer known for his super swing will have his own tee set to play as he is behind the other three players. These shorter tees, called “Charles tees” by Mickelson, will help Barkley offset limited tee shots.
